Golfer who’s only played nine holes in their life invited to play Pebble Beach, is understandably freaking out a bit
Golf as a beginner can be messy. It’s slow. It’s frustrating. You accidentally walk across someone’s line or step up to hit out of order. There’s so much to keep track of beyond the simple of mechanics of “get the ball in the air” that it can be tough to actually get the ball in THE FREAKING AIR.
This is why is learning is often done on the range and local public courses, where the collars are a little looser and mistakes aren’t mistakes, they’re part of the charm. However, one beginner on Reddit inadvertently cut to the front of the line when she received an invite from a family friend to play Pebble Beach Golf Links having played just nine holes in her entire. Here’s her story.
Naturally, she’s a bit conflicted about the whole thing. On one hand, she has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to begin her golf journey at one of the most hallowed courses in the sport. On the other, she’s terrified about wrecking that bucket list experience for the other golfers stuck behind her on the course. The question is, should she be?
Despite golf’s parochial, cloistered reputation, the answer from fellow golf Redditors was a resounding “relax.”
So there you have it newbies, if you ever find yourself in a similar position to friendlyferret2323, just thank your lucky stars, practice a bit before you go and make sure to bring plenty of balls. As long as you keep up with play and don’t sulk after skulling another one 15 yards up the fairway, everybody will be happy to have you.
